Gramm Barriers Join GCRE Benefits Scheme

Gramm Barriers have become the latest organisation to join the Global Centre of Rail Excellence Benefits Scheme.

Gramm, working with Turkish manufacturer HATKO, have developed new acoustic panels designed to cut noise and reduce carbon emissions.

Made from recycled rubber car tyres, the system has been developed to reduce noise generated by rail traffic, as well as cut rail industry emissions.

The product has now been installed at the GCRE site as part of the Bronze Tier of the GCRE Benefits Scheme.

The high-density Gramm barriers are being showcased at GCRE to demonstrate to rail and transport industry customers the commercial features of the new system.

The barriers act as a sound absorber for trackside rail noise as well as having wider application for road and industrial use. The system is designed to help transport operators reduce their carbon emissions.

GCRE is a new, purpose-built facility being developed in South West Wales for international rail research, testing and net zero technology development. The GCRE facility is currently in development, but ahead of opening has installed a 500-metre Road Rail Vehicle (RRV) line which can be used for product showcasing.

Arthur Emyr, Head of Business Development and Engagement at GCRE Ltd, said:

“Having Gramm Barriers at the Global Centre of Rail Excellence is very positive for us as it helps to show the creative options for showcasing and demonstration at our site.

“Showcasing of innovative products like this by Gramm, in a realistic railway environment, helps customers highlight the very latest, sustainable and cutting-edge innovations in the rail industry for a domestic and international audience.

“Our facilities at GCRE include 1,000 metres of lineside space which provides imaginative opportunities for product showcasing for organisations of all sizes.”

Steve Barnes Business Development Manager at Gramm Barriers said:

“GRAMM Barrier Systems are delighted to be part of the GCRE showcase programme. Working with HATKO, we have developed an innovative acoustic barrier solution that transforms end-of-life tyres into durable, high-performance infrastructure, helping address both noise and carbon reduction challenges facing the transport sector.

“GCRE provides a unique environment where rail clients, designers and contractors can see new technologies in a realistic operational setting. We look forward to demonstrating how circular economy materials can support future rail retrofit, renewal and enhancement programmes whilst delivering long-term acoustic and sustainability benefits.”

The bronze benefits package at GCRE provides a showcase zone for teams to highlight products. The package includes a branded information board and tailored visits for clients and customers to the GCRE site.
