Local Liaison Group – Independent Members

Advert

The Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE) is a major new infrastructure development happening in the local area. GCRE will be a facility for world class research, testing and showcasing of new trains, rail infrastructure and new technologies. GCRE is working hard to ensure that it is a good neighbour and wants to ensure that in both the construction of the facility and its operation, it is working with, and listening to, local residents near to the site.

To support this ambition, GCRE has established a Local Liaison Group. The group meets quarterly and will be given updates by GCRE on progress and plans. It will act as a forum to help resolve any local issues or questions relating to the GCRE development. The Local Liaison Group is made up of GCRE staff, local county and community councillors for the site, as well as a representative of the Drum Commoners Association.

GCRE would like to invite two individuals from the local community to join the group as independent members. It is intended that one of those members will become the independent Chair of the group. A brief description of the role is included below. This is a voluntary role, with no remuneration involved. However, appropriate travel expenses to meetings can be claimed.

Anybody wishing to express an interest in joining the group should contact Andrew.Johnson@gcre.wales. Please include a brief outline of your background and experience. The closing date for expressions of interest is 5pm on Friday 2nd February 2024.

Expressions of interest will be independently considered by the GCRE Community Committee and from this, two individuals will be invited to join the group.

Brief outline of the role:

  • To act as an independent representative of the GCRE Local Liaison Group
  • To receive updates from GCRE Ltd on progress with construction and its operation
  • To receive updates from GCRE on community engagement exercises which the company will undertake
  • Take part in quarterly discussions with other members of the group about GCRE and issues of concern for local residents
  • Bring balance and a broader perspective to GCRE through wider knowledge, experience and insight from other areas of life
  • Act as a sounding board for the GCRE team in relation to wider engagement with the local community

* It is hoped that one of the independent members will become Chair of the Local Liaison Group. For this it would be useful, but not essential, to have had some prior chair experience.
